MOUD or MOOD is a village just southeast of Birjand in Eastern Iran. Moud produces one of the best quality rugs in eastern Iran. They are actually woven in Mashad located in the Province of Khorassan. Most Mood carpets are woven in city workshops, however, some are woven by home-looms. In reference to design, Moud(Mood) rugs and carpets usually have curvilinear patterns with a single sunflower-shaped medallion in the center. Other design sometimes used in Moods are the Mahi "Herat" or even the Boteh which are featured in an all-over layout or even with a star shaped central medallion. Another pattern used is the garden or field design which illustrates a stylized garden. Furthermore, Moud(Mood) rugs and carpets can sometimes have characteristics similar to Birjand Rugs. Moud (Mood) rugs and carpets are of superior caliber. They are highly prized because they are one of the best-looking carpets in Iran and the world. These rugs and carpets come in different sizes, but the majority of them are mid-sized ranging with dimensions of 4x6 to 8x10 feet. You can also find larger rugs up to 10x18 feet. Dark reds, browns, beiges, and powerful blues are the predominant colors derived from vegetable-dyes. Ivories are used to provide for beautiful, contrasting hues. Soft greens can be found in newer carpets. Moud (Mood) rugs and carpets are made of a soft wool with a thin, tight pile. The warps of the foundation are made mostly of cotton while the wefts are made of wool. Occasionally, silk is interwoven with the design for accentuation. The weavers in Moud (Mood) use asymmetrical, Persian knots. Moud(Mood) rugs and carpets tend to be a little more costly compared to the majority of Persian rugs. This is due to their quality and rather particularized style and construction. All-in-all a Mood carpet piece will bring a comforting nature to your home.
