History of Origin

QUOCHAN(GHOOCHAN)city has about 807 kilometers from Tehran and 150 kilometers southwest of Mashad. Its climate, due to existence of Hezar Masjed, Aladagh and Shah Jahan heights, is moderate in summer and cold in .In medieval ages, Qouchan(Quchan) was famous as "Khabooshan" and "Khoojan" . This city was rebuilt in the time of Holakookhan. Shah Abbas the First transferred Kord warriors to this region for preventing Ozbaks and Turkmen attacks. In the year 1791 AD., Nader Shah was killed in " Tapeh Nader" (Nader's hill) close to this city. Its historical sites mostly belong to 12th century AD. Important natural, historical and religious monuments of this city are as follows:
• Ghoochan Gheshmeh Garmab
(hot mineral water spring)
• Ableh and Bardeh Rostam caves
• Recreational areas around the city
Quochan rugs and carpets usually have geometric patterns. The patterns found on an area rug of this type tend to be historical pictorials that are unique to the Khorassan Province, notably Persepolis. Traditional symbols including plants, flowers, animals, tents, and stars tell the rich tales of tribal life. Horses, elk, and camels are often evident on the cornices of Ghoochan rugs. There is some similarity from the Kurdish rugs which are from the east of Iran. There should be, considering the influence of Turkmen rugs in Quochan rugs and carpets patterns. When it comes to the quality of Quochan rugs and carpets it is very good. Quochan rugs and carpets have different sizes, but the majority of them are mid-sized ranging with dimensions from 4x6 to 8x10 feet. The main colors are blues, reds, and burgundies. Highlighting colors can include ivories, greens, light blues, turquoises, and neutral colors. They are made of a soft wool that has a thin, tight pile. The warps of the foundation are mostly cotton and the wefts are either cotton or wool. Weavers in Quochan use both Persian and Turkish knots. Quochan rugs and carpets create warmth and serenity to one's home in which make these desirable pieces.
