MOUSEL(MOSUL) is a Kurdish city located in northwestern Iraq. This city is influenced by western and southwestern Iran, southern Turkey, and northeastern Syria as Kurds also reside in these areas. Rugs and carpets from these Kurdish weavers take much time to complete due to their nomadic ways. The rugs and carpets are therefore woven on portable looms meant for easy evacuation. Unlike other Kurdish rugs, Mousel(Mosul) rugs and carpets have some semi-curvilinear patterns based off a tribal design. The overall pattern, however, is still in a geometric format. Traditional pieces also include Caucasian stars, diagonal bands, and "barber pole" stripes in the designs. Furthermore, in relativity to design a paneled garden design comprised of square, rectangular, diamond-shaped, or hexagonal compartments filled excellency. These Kurdish weavers use local wool and vegetable dyes for coloring. Mousel(Mosul) carpets and rugs come in different sizes, but the majority of them are mid-sized ranging with dimensions from 4x6 to 8x10 feet. The main color scheme is usually characterized by multiple shades of reds with some blues, greens, ivories, beiges, and yellows. Mousel(Mosul) rugs and carpets are made of a soft wool and have a thin, tight pile. The warps of the foundation are mostly cotton; the wefts are either made of cotton or wool. The weavers in Mousel(Mosul) use Turkish knots. Mousel(Mosul) rugs and carpets are well known for their unique shape and color among collectors.
