9.8x12.6 Sabzevar

History of Origin

The desert city of SABZEVAR was previously called Bayhagh known for rug weaving since the 1500's. Located 70 km from Mashad and 654 km (406 Miles)from Tehran, Sabzevar is a historical city and has a tourist guest house. Remaining from the time when the city was still called Bayhagh are Pamenar Mosque of the twelfth century and Jami Mosque and Khosrowgerd Minaret of the l3th century. The tomb of Haj Molla Hadi Sabzevari is also in this city. Sabzevar is composed of two parts, a mountainous area and a plains area. The weather is warm in the plains, but mild in the mountains. In the Islamic Period, Bayhagh State had two cities, Sabzevar and Khosrowgerd. These cities were completely ruined after an attack by Mongols. In 1368 CE, Sabzevar was a place of refuge and the capital city of the Sarbedaran movement against the Arab occupation, which won it the name of "Darolmomenin" (City Of Believers). In the period of the Ozbakans, this city was again ruined, but developed once more in the Safavid Dynasty. In the last few decades, Sabzevar has flourished. Important historical monuments of the city are:
• Khosrowgerd minaret.
• Tombs of Shah Tahmasb, Pirestir, Pirmorad, Molana Kashefi, and Molla Hadi Sabzevari
• Famous (Iranian Gnostics).
• Fasihieh, Kohneh, Fakhrieh and Shariatmadar Schools,Jame. Mosques of Chashm
• Feriomad Villages, and Pamenar.
• Shoeib, BiBi Alieh Khatoon, Seyed Aliakbar Sultan Hossein, Seyed Hossein , Seyed Esmail
• Haft Masoom and Yahya Imamzadeh.
• Bildarbashi, Seyed Naserebn Mohammad and Ebnabi Tayeb mausoleums.
Sabzevar rugs and carpets are characterized by curvilinear patterns usually with two or three smallers borders. The main feature that distinguishes Sabzevar rugs and carpets from others in this region is a rounded medallion. There is ,also, a great similarity between Sabzevar rugs and carpets and those produced in Mashad. You can also find Herati designs in older Sabzevar rugs and carpets. Sabzevar rugs and carpets are of excellent quality. Dark red, blue, and khaki are the main colors used in Sabzevar rugs and carpets derived from ghermez dane, pomegranate peel, walnut tree, pine tree, and the indigo plants. Soft greens and browns can be found in newer carpets. Rugs and Carpets from Sabzevar vary in size but usually range with dimensions from 4x 6 to 8 x 10 feet. Some newer pieces can be found in larger sizes. Wool can vary from having a soft texture and a short pile to long thick pile depening on the seasons that the wool is obtained. The warps of the foundation are mostly cotton; the wefts are either cotton or wool. Weavers from Sabzevar use both Persian and Turkish knots. Sabzevar rugs and carpets are extraordinarily beautiful and unique. This is probably why they are in high demand and are considered very valuable.
